As I’ve written in several places on this site, plant healing in of one form or another has been a part of my life since I was very young. But I’ve only recently begun to recognize the value of consulting and honoring their spirits or “devas.”
What got me started on this new, deeper element of plant medicine was a retreat I attended a few months ago in the mystical red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. This was part of an apprentice program I’m currently involved in to increase my skills and capabilities as a medicine woman. Our teacher/mentor, Elizabeth Seraphine, founder of the Priestess Path Lineages of Light® Mystery School, www.elizabethseraphine.com is very experienced in shamanic practices, and she led us through a variety of ceremonies. One of these was a “Cacao Ceremony” which touched a chord deep in my own spirit.
She laid out the items for the ceremony that included a block of raw cacao, coconut milk, honey, dried rose petals from her garden and several spices like cinnamon and cayenne. After she cut up the cacao and melted it in the milk on the stove top, we all took turns stirring and adding the other ingredients.
She then started singing to the spirit of the cacao plant
and played music on her flute as we all joined in.
I don’t remember the exact words but they combined to make a lovely, spontaneous song, conjuring the spirit of the cacao and respectfully asking it to bless and nourish our little group. We shared the warm beverage in a circle of community. I was loving it and was completely in awe!
Since that time, as a continuing part of my learning, I have made several journeys to the spirits of plants that are in my garden or somehow meaningful to my life.
This is where I’m at right now as I begin sharing the journeys on this website. If you have read up to this point, I again invite you to join me in these discoveries and perhaps post replies in the way of reactions, questions, suggestions, and your own similar experiences.
